Car insurance in Bulgaria is mandatory for all vehicle owners. The compulsory insurance, known as “Отговорност за гражданска отговорност” (Responsibility for Civil Liability), commonly referred to as “ОГО” (OGO), covers the liability of the vehicle owner for any damages caused to third parties in case of an accident.

Here are some key points about car insurance in Bulgaria:

1. Compulsory Insurance (OGO): Every vehicle owner in Bulgaria is required by law to have OGO insurance. It covers the liability for bodily injury and property damage caused to third parties in case of an accident. The insurance policy should cover a minimum amount determined by law.

2. Green Card (Международна автокаско карта): If you plan to drive your car outside of Bulgaria, you will need a Green Card. The Green Card is an international certificate of insurance that provides coverage for third-party liability when traveling abroad. It is recommended to obtain the Green Card from your insurance provider before traveling.

3. Additional Coverage: In addition to the mandatory OGO insurance, you can also opt for additional coverage, such as “Каско за превозното средство” (Motor Vehicle Insurance). This type of insurance provides coverage for damages to your own vehicle, including theft, fire, and collision, among others. It is not mandatory but is often chosen by vehicle owners for extra protection.

4. Insurance Providers: There are several insurance companies in Bulgaria that offer car insurance. We work exclusivy with Generali.

5. Insurance Premiums: The cost of car insurance in Bulgaria depends on various factors, including the type of coverage, the value of the vehicle, the driver’s age and experience, and the location where the car is registered. Typically, insurance premiums are paid annually, but some insurers offer the option to pay in installments.

6. Insurance Documents: When driving in Bulgaria, you should always carry the car insurance policy documents with you, including the Green Card if applicable. It’s important to present these documents if requested by the authorities or in case of an accident.

Remember to familiarize yourself with the specific terms and conditions of the insurance policy you choose, as they can vary between insurance providers. It’s also a good idea to consult with an insurance agent or company representative to ensure you have the necessary coverage for your needs.
